The FIA, headquartered in Paris, is the world governing body for motor sport. It is an International organisation grouping together Automobile Clubs from all over the world that have joined together in order to carry on their activities and to defend their common cause, motorsports. It is a non-profit organization. It is responsible for the International Sporting Code and endorses the sport through its various ASN's.

The CIK-FIA is one of the sporting Commissions of the FIA. The object of the CIK is to develop, promote, co-ordinate, supervise and regulate karting-related activities around the world, respecting the principles decreed by the FIA.
